Social Enterprise

This topic will introduce youth to the world of social enterprise! We’ll take a look at businesses and entrepreneurs that know how to maximize profits so that they can find ways to give back to their communities and fund social programs that truly make a difference. We’ll examine some major distinctions  between traditional businesses and social enterprises by giving youth the opportunity to explore social enterprises within their own communities, across Canada, and across the globe. Social entrepreneurs are everywhere and represent a growing number of new business owners! Above all, our goal is to empower aspiring young entrepreneurs to identify problems and social needs within their communities and the world around them so they can find creative solutions that will benefit everyone.

In the sections below we have provided additional resources to support our live event and to provide opportunities for youth to engage in personal development and career exploration.

Live Event

Youth will learn how to put their innovative ideas into action by attending this discussion with a panel of social entrepreneurs. For this topic, we’ll hear from two very accomplished female entrepreneurs that understand the true value of giving back, Lourdes Juan, Founder of several successful social enterprises such as the Leftovers Foundation and Fresh Routes, and Julie Savaria, course lecturer at McGill University and Justice, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) expert. Julie has founded her own social enterprise, Bindia Savaria Consulting to help organizations implement JEDI strategies.

If you are under the age of 30, we would appreciate your help in completing a brief post-webinar survey to assist us with evaluating the impact of the series for our funder, RBC Future Launch.  Be assured all responses will be kept fully confidential: https://bit.ly/survey_careers

E-Learning Modules

Our e-learning series is designed to allow youth to confidently map out this next phase of their life through their own customized plan. These on-demand modules provide practical step-by-step guided instructions, curated resources and worksheets. All 6 modules are now available for completion!

Our ‘Start Your Enterprise’ module helps youth convert an idea for a business or volunteer project into a basic business plan to support them in communicating their ideas to potential funders.

Career VLOGS

Our Career VLOGs provide an inside look into different careers, as each video asks professionals basic questions about how they started in their industry, what skills and education are required, and where they see the opportunities for youth interesting in getting into this line of work today. These vlogs will provide a starting point for youth to explore a career option that they may have never thought of pursuing.
